Skilled Workers
Skilled workers can apply for permanent residency to Canada under the Express Entry in three different categories namely:
- Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC)
- Federal Trades Skilled Class (FTSC)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
To apply for Express Entry candidate must first qualify for either one of the above mentioned three categories. All three categories have different language, education, related work experience and other requirements. Provinces and territories can also recruit candidates from the Express Entry system through their PNP (Provincial Nomination Programs).
Candidates applying under EE are ranked against others in the pool under a point- base Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), based on different criteria’s. Points are given for language, education, related work experience, age, arranged employment and adaptability. Highest ranking candidates get Invitation to Apply for permanent residency. Candidate can remain in pool for 12 months.
FSWC is the most popular category under the Economic Class category. Minimum of 67 points is required to qualify for FSWC. Minimum of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 7 in all four abilities: listening, speaking, reading and writing is required. Minimum of one year skilled (listed in NOC 0, A or B) continuous full-time work experience or equivalent in continuous part-time employment in one or more occupations is required for FSWC.
NOC skill level 0 – Managerial jobs
NOC skill level A – Professional jobs
NOC skill level B – Technical jobs and skilled trades
Federal Skilled Trades Class
Following types of trades qualify under this category:
- Industrial, electrical and construction trades
- Maintenance and equipment operation trades
- Supervisors and technical occupations in natural resources and agriculture related production
- Processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators
- Chefs and cooks
- Butchers and bakers
For FSTC minimum threshold is CLB level 5 required in speaking and listening and level 4 for reading and writing. At least twenty four months of work experience (after qualification/certification in country where work was performed) in last five years in one of the above mentioned skilled trades is required.
Canadian Experience Class
This category opens door to Canada for would-be immigrants who have acquired Canadian work experience. Minimum of 12 months full time (or equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience (skill level NOC 0, A or B) in Canada within the last three years is required. This work experience have to be gained with proper authorisation. Minimum language level of CLB 7 required for NOC 0 or A jobs or CLB 5 for NOC B jobs of.
